Diaper Rash

Diaper rashes are red, itchy or burning skin in the diaper region. They can look white (yeast) or swollen. Diaper rashes can be caused by sensitivity to foods or even by the diaper itself. Many diapers and baby wipes contain chemicals which are too harsh for a baby’s skin.

A child with sensitivity to food would likely exhibit a red anus, but not always. A child can be sensitive to something in their mother’s breast milk, i.e. if the child is sensitive to dairy, it would react to dairy in his/her mother’s breast milk. A food diary to track the culprit could help. Diaper rashes could also be caused by infrequent diaper changes or acidic stools or urine.
